85% of men start losing their hair by the time they’re 50. There are those unfortunate few who go bald much younger. It’s a more gradual process for the rest.
Many men accept their baldness as an inevitability. It doesn’t have to be. You can treat your hair loss if you catch it early enough.

1. Thinning
Does your comb slip through your hair easier? Has your styling routine changed because you lack volume?
Your hair is thinning. This is one of the early signs of hair loss.
Some thinning is inevitable. Our hair follicles weaken as we age. Many men grow less hair than they once did without going bald.
Thinning hair is a warning sign you should take seriously. Once you notice it, keep a close watch on your crown and hairline for additional signs.
2. Receding Hairline
This is the easiest physical symptom to spot. Men don’t often look at the back of their heads. Thinning can be subjective.
Hairlines recede gradually. The signs of a receding hairline aren’t always noticeable until it’s too late. Pay attention to these characteristics.
- Brittle Hair: Hair around the temples is wispy rather than full
- ‘M’ Shape: Front hairline resembles an M, or you notice a new widow’s peak
- Loss of Density: Same as thinning but occurs primarily at the hairline
A receding hairline doesn’t mean inevitable baldness. An early hair loss treatment plan including a hair line tattoo can solve balding for many men.
3. Crown Issues
Some men don’t start balding from their hairline. A thinning crown is harder to notice since it’s the back of your head.
Is your hair part wider? Is your hair thicker on the sides but thin on top? Can you see your scalp when you style your hair? Do you notice a breeze on the back of your head?
These are all sure signs of a thinning crown.
4. Excessive Shedding
Humans shed 50 to 100 hairs a day. It’s normal to find some hair in your shower drain or on your pillow.
Any more than a little is too much. Do you see large amounts of your hair not on your head? You’re losing it.
Don’t panic. Make an appointment with your doctor. They can guide you to medication and a diet plan.
5. Short Hair Growth Cycle
Do you notice changes in your hair when you get it cut? It feels different when it grows back. When it grows back it doesn’t grow the same.
Wavy or curly hair falls flat. What was once smooth and shiny is now thin and frizzy.
There’s a reason for this. As you age, your hair follicles shrink. When they shrink, your hair grows thinner.
Watch for These Early Signs of Balding
There isn’t much strategy for how to prevent balding. It’s an inevitability of aging.
Just because you’re starting to lose your hair doesn’t mean you’re doomed. There are treatments available for those who see the early signs of balding. Catch it soon enough and you’ll keep your hair for life.
