With 2022 slowly coming to a close, we’re all starting to switch into holiday mode a little too early. But before we let our brains shut down and reset for the new year, there are still a few months left to get some important things done.
One of the big jobs that we should all be focusing on before 2023 is a final year-end deep clean. Getting your home fresh before the year is out will help you start the new year feeling good, clean, and well-organised. Here are some things you could add to the list.
Purge Your Pantry
One area of our homes that can quickly and easily build up clutter and mess is the pantry.
Over time, bags and boxes of food will get shoved to the back, be forgotten, spill, spoil, and goodness knows what else. Take an hour or two to clean it all out, throw out anything expired, check for pests and wipe down the shelves.
Mold Checks
Once you’ve checked for pests, you can also look around for any mold. This could be in any potentially damp area such as where there’s plumbing, or even in the walls or ceilings of your home.
If you find a serious mold problem, you’ll need to call professional residential remediation services to help you sort it out. Black mold can pose a serious threat to your family’s health.
Clean Out the Chimney
If you’ve never had to do it before, cleaning your chimney can feel like a massively daunting task. However, it’s important to get done from time to time to remove soot and potential blockages.
If not cleaned out, the build-up in your chimney could create a fire (and not the kind you want), so be sure to do a thorough job or hire a professional to do it for you.
Move All the Appliances
Next, you know you need to but, you never seem to find the time to clean behind all the furniture and appliances in your home.
Before 2022 ends, get a broom, a mop and a bucket out and shift all your furniture away from the walls to tackle the dust, dirt and grime that builds up behind and underneath them over time.
Clean Your Mattress
Owning a great mattress is all good and well, but if you don’t keep it clean, you’ll soon need to replace it!
You can have your mattress professionally cleaned around once a year, and you can also flip your mattress regularly to help avoid dirt build-up on one side as well as wearing down one side particularly badly.
Wash Curtains
Finally, you can take down your curtains and give them a thorough cleaning. Although hanging curtains can be a bit of a mission, you’ll be surprised by what a major difference a good washing can do to lift and freshen the room.
Keep in mind that different types of curtains will require different types of washing, so do your research beforehand to avoid destroying your expensive drapes in the washing machine.
