The term making MLB picks today is used in reference to betting on the sport, but you can also make some MLB travel picks. The MLB season runs from late March through October each year, but the best time to travel is in June or July.
There are 30 MLB teams scattered across the country, and most teams are located in terrific travel destinations. If you want to plan a perfect vacation then you can look at each of the six divisions in baseball to guide you.
This does not mean that you have to watch a game when you are there, but just look at some of these cities that you can visit by checking out the list of MLB teams.
AL East: Toronto
The American League East has some historic cities that you could visit like Boston, Baltimore, or New York, but they should not be your destination. Instead, head across the border up into Canada and visit Toronto for a week.
Even though Toronto is in another country, you are still going to find that it feels a lot like being in the United States. It’s the unique and subtle differences though that will make this a special trip, and you’ll likely want to continue coming back.
AL Central: Minneapolis
The one division where it was sort of hard to pick a travel destination was the AL Central Division. That’s not a knock on any of the cities or teams, but they just don’t match up to some of the others on the list.
One city that is worth traveling to though is Minneapolis and June is a perfect time to visit. The Mall of America is one stop that you should make in Minneapolis, but it’s also the best time of year to get outside and enjoy all that the downtown has to offer.
AL West: Los Angeles
The AL West has some cities that can get pretty warm, and Los Angeles is one of those cities. Despite the heat in LA, you will still have a great time with all of the sightseeing possibilities that are out there.
The traffic is never good in Los Angeles, but you can use public transportation to get you to the beach or down to Rodeo Drive. You’re going to do plenty of walking when you visit LA, but all of it will be worth it.
NL East: Miami
The Marlins are consistently one of the worst teams in baseball, but they still play in one of the best tourist attractions in the United States. Even though the weather will be pretty warm down in Miami in the summer, it won’t be so hot that you won’t enjoy yourself.
Miami is a city that is known for the night life, but this is also a city that has great history and great culture. Of course you will want to take a trip to South Beach when you are in Miami, but you’ll find plenty to do in or around the city that doesn’t involve going to watch the Marlins play.
NL Central: Chicago
If you were planning a trip in the middle of January then Chicago would not be a good spot, but the Windy City is a perfect spot to visit in the middle of Summer. It’s widely known that the summers in Chicago are some of the best in the United States, and you will have plenty of things to do.
The city of Chicago sits right on Lake Michigan and there are actually some terrific beaches to visit. You can also check out some of the iconic parks that are in the city or spend a day at Navy Pier.
Even if you aren’t a baseball fan, heading down to Wrigleyville should be on your bucket list as well.
NL West: San Francisco
Picking the best city to visit out of the NL West teams wasn’t easy, as you could really go with every option. Since we already used Los Angeles for the AL West, the next choice is visiting San Francisco.
You will run into some pretty intense heat visiting some of the cities that we have mentioned, but that won’t be the case in San Francisco. The weather there is nearly perfect in the summer time, and checking out the bay should be one of your stops.
The Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz are two other options that you simply can’t-miss if you visit San Francisco.
